Chevalier Rank. A French National Order of the Legion of Honor (Legion d'honneur) decoration, specifically the Chevalier (Knight) rank from the Third Republic era. The medal is designed as a five-armed, ten-pointed cross in silver with white enamel, tipped with silver spheres. The arms are joined by a green enameled wreath of oak and laurel leaves. The entire cross is suspended from a smaller green enameled oak and laurel wreath. The obverse features a central gold-colored medallion with the profile of Marianne facing right, encircled by a blue enamel ring inscribed with REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE 1870.
