Hand-forged iron meat cleaver with a rectangular blade and looped rod handle, forged in one continuous assembly. The blade shows subtle asymmetry, hammer texture, and softened corners consistent with individual blacksmith work rather than factory production. The handle is formed from doubled iron rod, bent into a closed loop and forge-welded at the blade, offering strength without added bulk. A faint stamped mark on the handle appears to read "1888," firmly placing the piece in the late 19th century. This style of cleaver would have been produced for practical use in butcher shops or working kitchens, where durability and ease of maintenance mattered more than refinement.
